Chris Hannon to retire as Trustee Chair

Apr 6, 2022
Chris Hannon will retire as Trustee Chair of the railway pension schemes on 6 July 2022.

Chris Hannon, the Trustee Chair of the railway pension schemes, has announced that he will not seek re-election at the end of his current term of office. He will retire from the Trustee and as Trustee Chair, at the Annual General Meeting of Railtrust Holdings Limited. This will take place on 6 July 2022.

Chris was appointed as a Trustee Director in 2005, and has chaired the Board since 2019. Prior to that, Chris also chaired the Trustee’s Integrated Funding Committee and its predecessor the Benefits and Funding Committee since its inception in 2007. Commenting on his decision to stand down, Chris said: “Having been in the fortunate position of serving on the Board for the past 17 years, it is time for me to give someone else an opportunity to do so. Therefore, I have confirmed that I will not be standing for a further term and will retire from the Board. This will provide an opportunity to increase the diversity of our Board membership and bring a fresh perspective to the Trustee’s discussions.

“It has been an honour to serve our 350,000 members as a Trustee of the railway pension schemes. The importance of having a good, secure pension has never been greater and I leave you in the very capable hands of my Trustee colleagues. Meanwhile, please be assured that I remain 100% committed to my current role and the immediate issues the Board is addressing.”

We would like to thank Chris for his years of dedicated service to the Scheme and its members. We’ll update you on new appointments to the Trustee Board in the coming months,
