Get ready for pensions dashboards

Apr 22, 2024
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) recently confirmed new dates for its pensions dashboard programme. Here’s a reminder of what it is and what it means for you.

What is pensions dashboards?

Pensions dashboards is a free, government-backed online tool, that will allow you to see all of your pensions, including your State Pension, in one place. You can find out more at  pensionsdashboardsprogramme.org.uk.

Dashboards will help reconnect you with old pension pots, including any you may have otherwise forgotten. Being able to easily access all of your pension information could support you with better planning for your retirement.

When is it aiming to launch?

Although the launch date of pensions dashboards is yet to be confirmed, the pensions dashboards programme has made good progress in testing the system to ensure it will work when it is launched. The programme plans to begin the process of connecting organisations (including the DWP) directly to the tool in August 2024. Once this happens, the pensions dashboards programme will continue testing the connection to help support a wider industry connection in early 2025.

What do you need to do?

It’s essential that your member details are up to date by this summer, or they might not match with the pensions dashboards correctly.

Dashboards will use 3 key identifiers to match our records:

  • Surname
  • Date of birth
  • National Insurance number

Log in to your account, or if you haven’t already, register for a free online account by visiting btppensions.co.uk/login. Once you’re logged in, you can check your details are correct by looking in the ‘membership details’ section of your account, to make sure your dashboard is accurate when it’s ready to launch.

If your information is not correct, please let us know by emailing csu@railpen.com. You must include evidence of the correct information, or we will not be able to make any changes to your records. Evidence could be a scanned copy or photograph of one of the following:

  • Marriage certificate
  • Birth certificate
  • National Insurance card, payslip or P60
